Sugarbush Vineyard and Butler Island Vineyard are family owned agricultural operations. Sugarbush Vineyard, in Colchester, Vermont, conveniently located just 10 minutes north of Burlington, features a growing vineyard operation where cold-hard grape varietals such as Marquette, LaCrescent, and Swenson White are grown just a half a mile from Lake Champlain. Our close proximity to the lake also allows us to grow some more tender varietals such as Vidal Blanc, Traminette, and Marchel Foch. Our farm also features an active maple sugaring operation, where maple syrup and maple confections are lovingly produced by two generations of the Hillis family. Our winery tasting room is uniquely located in our beautiful timber frame sugarhouse, where visitors can enjoy both the flavors of maple and wine together in one location. Our second vineyard, located in the middle of northern Lake Champlain on Butler Island, is boat accessible only in a unique grape growing micro-climate. The location, accessibility, and unique growing conditions present some challenges to grape cultivation, however several varietals are demonstrating success on this beautiful island location. Grapes harvested from the Butler Island location will be fermented and bottled in the future under the Butler Island Vineyard label. Visit our website at www.hillisfarm.com.
